My friend Gillian recently made a triumphant escape from the food service business to pursue a more creative path. While I will miss the quirky wit and warm spirit with which she brightened so many dull afternoons, I am more than a little bit excited to see where she’s headed. Her photoblog is an absolute blast. I’m not sure why this makes me feel so cheerful, but it does. Cameron is loving it. Merkel is visibly distressed. And Obama’s face is priceless. As for me, I was just dumbfounded that an English team beat a German team on penalties. That is not a thing that happens.
